Cape York Peninsula - the place

Cape York is situated at the tip of Australia; a wild, untamed and largely inaccessible part of the country, with absolute pristine river systems that have seen neither commercial fishing nor many flies or plugs. It's a region inhabited by wild boar, crocodiles, a large variety of birdlife and of course, an abundance of fantastic sportsfish.
On the west coast, the Jardine River, a complex river system, is spring fed by 10,000 gallons of water every second. The result - crystal clear water presenting great sight fishing opportunities. On the east coast, the Jackey Jackey/Escape River systems are magnificent with the mouth of Jackey Jackey Creek being 19.5 kilometres (12 mi.) across. This river system encompasses almost 80 kilometres (50 mi.) of coastline with large river systems running inland. With the many tributaries, this area would take more than a lifetime to fully explore.

Safaris start in March, after the 'wet season' runoff (makes a perfect start to the fishing season) and finish in December. With an ideal climate, targeted fish species are there all year round, with the months preceding the 'wet season' being particularly excellent.
Just bring your personal effects, a good pair of Polaroid sunglasses and your camera. It will always be a fisherman's tale unless you have the photo to prove it, as no one will believe the size that the fish grow up here in this remote and rugged part of Australia!
