The Cape York Peninsula, The place

Cape York is situated at the very top of Australia. A wild, untamed and largely inaccessible part of the country with absolute pristine river systems which have not seen any commercial fishing nor many flies or plugs. Inhabited by wild boar, crocodiles, and an abundance of birdlife and of course fantastic sportsfish. The West Coast - Jardine River is one of the most famous of Cape York Peninsular. This river system is spring fed to the tune of 10,000 gallons a second coming from underground. As a result the water is crystal clear presenting great sight fishing opportunities. The East Coast - Jackey Jackey/Escape River systems are absolutely huge, the mouth of Jackey Jackey is 12 miles across and the whole system encompasses around 50 miles of coastline with large river systems running inland from there. This area would take more than a lifetime to fully explore.

Cape York,  The Tour

Hyperspace Fishing Tours can arrange a complete package including return airfares from Cairns to Cape York, twin-share air-conditioned accommodation at our Lodge, (an oasis in the wilderness) all meals and refreshments excluding alcohol for any duration. Steve will supply you with all your tackle needs including flyfishing tackle on a replace if lost or damaged basis. Steve does however encourage you to bring your own fly fishing rods & tackle as most people are accustomed to using their own fly Fishing rods.

Safari's start in March and finish in late December. January and February are very wet and March allows the fresh water to run off making a perfect start to the season. In this area it is much warmer so all species are there year round with months preceding the wet season being excellent. However the best catch for Barramundi was in June with two anglers catching 109 in one day. You just can't pick it - that's fishing!

Just bring your personal affects, a good pair of Polaroid sunglasses and don't forget your camera as no one will believe the size the fish grow up here in this remote and rugged part of Australia.
